The three couches
On the walls of the tomb of king Ramsis second , we found 3 similar couches which indicate that these 3 couches are not only to be found in the tombs of the New kingdom or they are not unique couches.
Functions of the couches
Mainly is to guarantee the sofety and reviving power of the king in the afterlife as he is secured
.the power of the sacred animals when he rests each couch.
Way of arranging
These couches were arranged inside the antechamber from smallest to the largest, of couches, these couches are funerary ones meaning that the used in the daily life .
Forming
Each couch consists of 4 detachable parts ( compartment ) first of all the mattress , the footboard, the 2 compartment attached to the right and the left representing the animal body of the bed , finally there is a wooden base under the whole of the 3 compartments , covered with bitumen or black resin.
Material: all of these 3 couches are made out of wood, stuccoed , then gilded and painted .
The first couch
It represents a goddess called ( Mhyt Wrt ) which in the great flood , this goddess is one of the famous deities of ancient Egypt .
She is the primordial cow who surfaces from the primordial ocean ( Nun ) which bearing god Re in the journey to the horizon of heaven .
She is represented in the form of a cow with a son above it’s head flanked by 2 horns .
Her eyes are represented in the form of the het eyes the protective eye of Horus mlaid with blue glass , we can also see that there are spots located the skin of her body .
Concerning the mattress it is made out of woven mots , then footboard is decorated the traditional signs of Isi tyt , Osiris dd sign stability & protection .
The arm from making this couch
Is the King Wishes to guarantee safety revivify , power in his afterlife by the power of goddess Mhyt as god Re enjoyed that when he was carried by her in his journey to the horizon of heaven , beside that the king wanted to be imitate R identified with some thing related to god R so he chose goddess Mhyt ,wrt .
The second couch
It is a strange couch because it is not easily to idea who is the goddess here as we can see the head ,it takes the shape of a composite animal in the front of the a hippopotamus, head , body , tail of a crocodile and legs of lion ending with lion paws .
In fact it most probably representing goddess Im t the female form of god ‘ m ‘ m .
This goddess is represented sometimes near the scales of the judgment court of Osiris where the heart and the feather are placed one opposite the other and this goddess .
